Uncle Don
Smith, Donald “Smitty” age 80 of Kettering , passed away Friday January 23, 2009 at Hospice of Dayton. He was preceded in death by his parents Donnell and Thelma Smith. Survivors include his wife of 55 yrs., Rose Smith of Kettering, daughters and sons-in-law Terri and Mike Milling of Dayton, Bobbi Jo and Bob Hoak of Columbus, OH; sisters Betty and John Schmidt of Alabama, Ethel Carter of Florida, Rosie and John Whittenberger of Sidney, OH, Barbara Butler of Hillsboro, OH; loving grandchildren Marybeth & Joe Milling, Scott Milling, Danny Milling, Jamie & Melissa Crum; sister-in-law Linda (Robert) VanWinkle; special friend Myra Roeckner. He was the Secretary Treasurer of the Dayton Bowling Association for many years, member of the Church of the Cross United Methodist Church , and a US ARMY Veteran of WWII. He was a volunteer for the City of Kettering Fire Department , Station #3, and the Kettering Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, and the Montgomery County Courthouse. Smitty also volunteered at the United States Air Force Museum, Carillon Park , and Fraze Pavilion. Funeral Service 10 am Wednesday January 28, 2009 at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-FAR HILLS CHAPEL 5471 Far Hills Ave at Rahn Rd. Pastor John Whitaker officiating. Interment Miami Valley Memory Gardens . Friends may call from 5-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Hospice of Dayton, or National Kidney Association.
